FIND OUT MORE ABOUT BLAIRGOWRIE AND RATTRAY’S NEW LOCAL PLACE PLAN
Residents in Perthshire’s largest town are being invited to attend an event looking at a new ‘local place plan’ for Blairgowrie and Rattray.
The event is being hosted by Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust (BRDT) at the St Catharine’s Centre on George Street on Monday, August 19, at 6pm.
Local place plans are part of the Scottish Government’s wider work on planning reform and the implementation of the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 which gives communities the right to produce their own plans locally.
The idea is that local communities can work together to contribute ideas and proposals for the development of land in their area, potentially helping to define its future use and create places that support inclusive and sustainable economic growth, address climate change and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Once a local place plan has been completed and registered with the local planning authority, it is then taken into account in the preparation of the relevant local development plan, the third iteration of which is set to be worked on in Perth and Kinross.
Linda Tait is chair of BRDT. Encouraging people to get involved, she said: “The local place plan is a piece of work that gives us an opportunity to inform the Local Development Plan for this area.
“Creating our local place plan requires a group of people who have the passion, skills, experience and knowledge to come together to help Blairgowrie and Rattray look forward to the next 13 or 14 years - and beyond - with a focus on sustainability, a healthy community and a thriving economy, ensuring that our town is a place where people will want to live, work and raise a family.
“The first step is to plot location-based aspirations for the town on a map, and we would love for members of the community to be involved in this process to make sure that we capture what is already in place here in Blairgowrie and Rattray and help determine what could and should be included in the future.
“Is there anything you feel Blairgowrie and Rattray is missing for example, that could be based here? And if so, where do you think it should be located?
“This exercise is the next stage in taking the town’s community action plan forward and is a really exciting opportunity to share any ideas and aspirations you have for Blairgowrie and Rattray and that you would like to see developed.
“So please come along and join us and help make a positive difference to our town.”
Light refreshments will be provided and it would therefore be helpful if anyone wishing to attend could email admin@brdt.org.uk to confirm.
